Scholarship Opportunities to Study MSc in Biostatistics

 Application deadline for Masters scholarships is 24th October 2017

 Below are scholarship opportunities to study for a Master of Biostatistics Degree at Chancellor College, University of Malawi.

 1.                  SSACAB full-time fellowships (3 positions)

The Sub-Saharan African Consortium for Advanced Biostatistical Training (S2ACABT), a consortium of twenty African and northern institutions with the University of the Witwatersrand as the lead applicant; and KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programmes, Universities of KwaZulu-Natal, Warwick and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine as co-applicants, secured funding from the Wellcome Trust/AESA through the Developing Excellence in Leadership, Traning and Science (DELTAS). The funding will cover Masters and PhD programmes in Biostatistics in participating training institutions to develop and improve biostatistical skills among researchers, with an ultimate goal of creating research nodes of excellence to grow the discipline and a biostatistical network to nurture researchers with advanced skills and expertise. The consortium is therefore calling for full time scholarship applications for Masters in Biostatistics tenable at Chancellor College University of Malawi. Three positions are available under this call.

Eligibility

  • The scholarships are open to candidates with strong background in either Statistics, Mathematics, Demography,  any other quantitative fields , including competent candidates from the lab/health field such as biomedical sciences, pharmacy, medicine who may benefit from a postgraduate course in biostatistics.
  • The potential fellows should have been offered a place in the University of Malawi to study Master of Science in Biostatistics
  • Applicants should normally be under 35 years.
  • The scholarship is open to nationals of low and middle income countries in the Sub-Saharan African Region that are resident in the region. (http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-and-lending-groups#Sub_Saharan_Africa )  and partnering institutions in the consortium.

Scholarship package

The scheme will provide full scholarships for 3 Masters students fellows in the 2017/2018 academic year and covers the following:

 

  • Tuition fees
  • A monthly stipend to cover accommodation and living expenses.

2.                  SSACAB partial financial support (1 position)

 An opportunity is available under SSACAB to apply for partial financial support to study for Master of Sciences in Biostatistics with the University of Malawi.

 Eligibility

  •  This scholarship is open to students who are at an advanced stage in their research, but are having financial challenges to properly finish up their research
  • The potential fellow must have passed all their course work at the time of application
  • The potential candidate must have been admitted into the programme with at least a credit degree
  • The scholarship is open to nationals of low and middle income countries in the Sub-Saharan African Region that are resident in the region. (http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-and-lending-groups#Sub_Saharan_Africa )  and partnering institutions in the consortium
  • Applicants should normally be under 35 years.

 Scholarship package

 The scheme will provide partial scholarship for 1 masters student in the 2017/2018 academic year and covers the following:

  • Second year tuition fees
  • 3 – 6 months stipend

3.       Mathematical Sciences Biostatistics Challenge (1 position)

The Mathematical Sciences Biostatistics Challenge is a new scholarship facility introduced by the Mathematical Sciences Department to support good but financially underpriviledged students to study for a Master of Sciences in Biostatistics at Chancellor College, University of Malawi.

Eligibility

  • The scholarships are open to candidates with strong background in either Statistics and/or Mathematics.
  • The potential fellows should have been offered a place in the University of Malawi to study Master of Science in Biostatistics
  • Applicants should normally be under 35 years.
  • The scholarship is open to Malawian nationals only.

Scholarship package

The scheme will provide partial scholarship for 1 masters student in the 2017/2018 academic year and covers the following:

  • Tuition fees only

 Additional information

 Applicants should provide the academic training institution with:

  1.  A comprehensive curriculum vitae including relevant research and work experience
  2. Letter of motivation explaining why you want be considered for scholarship.
  3. Certified copies of academic transcripts and degree certificates 
  4. Evidence of acceptance to study Biostatistics with University of Malawi in the 2017/2018 academic year
  5. Two confidential referee reports should be sent directly to the address below.
  6. For those applying for the partial scholarship to do research should include in their application dossier, a copy of their research work in order for the selection team to review progress status.

Preference for SSACAB scholarships will be given to candidates who are likely to strengthen the SSACAB institutions either as academic staff members or affiliation to research institution within the consortium.

Further, SSACAB recipients’ careers will be tracked with the new Wellcome Trust DELTAS S2ACABT  alumni that will monitor the impact of the programme, as well as networking and increased visibility opportunities for the Fellows.
