Good work withstands the test of time, this used to be the Philosophy of the one famous Mathematician and Physicist, Isaac Newton who used to publish his work after years of discovery to be sure whether the knwoledge is indeed novel. This is a similar story of one of the masters graduates in the Biostatistics programme from 2010 Cohort, Masford Banda who has published a paper from his thesis work after 3 years since he defended the thesis before examiners at Chancellor College in 2012. Masford did a study titled "Spatial modelling of perinatal mortality in Mchinji, Malawi". The work was supervised by Associate Professor Lawrence N. Kazembe. The work is now published with ScienceDirect Journal and can be accessed through the link http://authors.elsevier.com/a/1SbTT6gwSs3MYg.

The study investigated small-scale geographical variations and determinants of perinatal mortality in Mchinji using fully Bayesian inference. High perinatal mortality was observed in the Eastern part of the study area, and the authors recommend targeted health interventions in this high risk location. Masford joins a list of his fellow masters in Biostatistatics graduates who have published part of their thesis work, in the name of James Chirombo, Owen Mtambo, and Mike Chipeta, all from 2010 Cohort and supervised by Associate Professor Lawrence Kazembe. The programme is very proud of Masford's achievement and we encourage all our graduates and their supervsiors to consider publishing their work.
